Royal Caribbean Cruises’ Anthem of the Seasmade its very first call in Noumea in early November. After a decade sailing the Caribbean and up to New York, the ship will now explore the Pacific each summer season, with regular stops in New Caledonia.

To welcome the new arrival and mark this milestone for the cruise sector, representatives from the Autonomous Port of New Caledonia and other delegations (including the Australian Consulate in New Caledonia and the NC Chamber of Commerce and Industry) took part in the traditional plaque exchange with Captain Johan on board the vessel. The ship belongs to the Quantum Class—considered the company’s “most innovative” ships.

“We are delighted to now be calling in your incredible Pacific destination, where even the seagulls seem relaxed,” Captain Johan joked during the welcome ceremony.

Seventy percent of the Anthem of the Seas passengers—nearly 3,000 people—disembarked to explore the capital and its surroundings during this inaugural visit.
