Filming Support

New Caledonia offers a wide range of facilities, services, and skilled professionals to make audiovisual and film productions easier to manage. Specific regulations apply to filming in the territory, and in many cases it is simpler to complete crews and equipment by drawing on local expertise.

Filming Permits

Filming in public spaces requires permits, with procedures varying by province:

  • Province Sud: Requests are handled by the Bureau d’Accueil des Tournages.
  • Province Nord and the Loyalty Islands: Requests must be submitted to the local town halls or provincial authorities. The Province Sud Film Office can act as a first point of contact to guide you.

For shoots on customary land, permission must also be obtained in advance from district chiefs, and the customary gesture (geste coutumier) should be made with the relevant tribes.

Local Professional Support

Public Funding

The New Caledonia Audiovisual and Film Support Fund supports external productions that partner with at least one local audiovisual company.

It is financed by public institutions (Province Sud, Province Nord, Loyalty Islands Province, and the New Caledonian Government), broadcasters (Canal+ Calédonie, NC la 1ère, Caledonia), and private partners (OPT, ISPs).

Producers are invited to apply via the Province Sud Film Office.

Drone Regulations

European drone regulations do not apply in New Caledonia. Operators must comply with local rules and register with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) in advance.

Certain areas — including air corridors, protected reserves, and customary zones — are subject to restrictions or bans. The DGAC provides the geolocated NC Drones app (available on Google Play and Apple Store) to identify these zones.
