The Bwärä Marine Turtle association works to protect turtles and their nesting sites on the Bourail coast.
The beaches of Bourail, La Roche Percée and Turtle Bay are the main nesting sites for New Caledonia's loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and the second largest site in the South Pacific. During the egg laying and hatching season (November to May), the Bwärä Marine Turtle association makes sure the turtles are protected. Its members ensure the females and babies are undisturbed, which is essential to their survival. Eco-guards also collect useful information on the turtle population....
