Ideally located halfway along the road in the town of Mont-Dore, the Rivière des Pirogues flows between two bays; the one from which it takes its name: la Baie des Pirogues and the Bay of N'Go. The Rivière des Pirogues is one of the largest rivers in the Great South, it is also one of New Caledonians' favourite swimming spots. It is therefore a very busy place. You’ll see the end of it if you take the road to Yaté, via the Col de Mouirange.
♦ An insider tip:
As the site is very popular, why not try one of the many “water holes” along the river? That way you can swim in complete privacy without having lots of other people around you, especially when you feel like a little peace and quiet on a Saturday or a Sunday.
*It is strictly forbidden to:
- Leave your waste on site or dump any harmful liquids there
- Bathe in the water with hygiene products (such as shampoo or soap, etc.)
- cut wood there
- set fires
*Please leave the site clean and pleasant for those who will come after you.
