The southern summer, from December to March, is the hottest period, with temperatures typically exceeding 30°C. This is also the cyclone season, particularly from February onwards, which can bring heavy rain and strong winds. Despite the heat, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the lagoon.

Cool season

Running from June to September, the cool season sees daytime temperatures ranging from 20 to 25°C. Occasional rainfall is accompanied by westerly winds. The water temperature hovers around 22°C, making it suitable for swimming. Additionally, between mid-June and mid-September, you can witness humpback whales calving in the lagoon, making it an ideal time for whale watching.

Inter-seasons

Between these distinct seasons, New Caledonia experiences more temperate inter-seasons. “Caledonian spring,” from October to November, is one of the most beautiful times of the year. It’s characterised by dry, sunny weather, minimal rainfall, and gradually rising temperatures.
