Botanical in Lifou
  • Visit to vanilla plantations and sale of vanilla beans by the producers.

  • Vanilla cultivation was introduced to Lifou in 1860 by the English reverend Samuel McFarlane, who brought some plants from Madagascar on his boat. Nowadays, more than 120 producers and a large number of planters supply vanilla that is 100 % natural: Lifou's "brown gold". In Mucaweng, Félix Bole was one of the first farmers to open his plantation to visitors.
