Fisherman's Islet

  • Island
L'îlot Pêcheur, 98809 Mont-Dore
Still relatively unknown, step onto this former islet where the ancestors gathered to fish and gather medicinal plants for various ailments... A place that is both mysterious and rich in resources.
Fishing spot of the past and today, a hotspot of endemic plant biodiversity. This is the key information to remember about the Fisherman's Islet.

You may wonder why you're not familiar with this islet? Today, this historical fishing site is no longer surrounded by water due to the landfilling carried out along the Boulari coastline several years ago. It is now an ancient islet that still holds a wealth of biodiversity. You will see beautiful endemic plant species, particularly those from the mangrove and mining scrubland.

For plant lovers, and if you're lucky, you might spot some species in full bloom. Bird enthusiasts can also catch sight of, or hear, the calls of about ten bird species that love to visit the Fisherman's Islet to shelter and enjoy the beauty of nature.

To move beyond simple contemplation, the islet's eco-trail is marked with information "posts," allowing you to reconnect with ancestral knowledge about the use of certain plants.
