The mosque bears witness to the great importance of the Arab community to New Caledonia more specifically, to the Bourail region. Almost 2,000 Algerian common-law prisoners were transported here between 1864 and 1897. Once released, many of them were granted parcels of land in Nessadiou and Boghen,...
