Classed as a historic monument and natural climbing site.
Fort Téréka was established in 1877 against the backdrop of the Franco-German War. The battery is equipped with four 138.6 mm swivel guns.
The site has platforms, a gunpowder store, a culvert, a sloping bank, pits and a long underground tunnel that comes out at the track near the former caretaker’s residence. It was disarmed in 1906 following a decision taken by the Ministry for Colonies to reduce the number of military personnel in New Caledonia.
It was listed as a historic monument in 1978 and gives climbing enthusiasts the opportunity to practise in a natural setting with a stunning view of the lagoon.
